FPSO Allan rescues sea turtles in distress

Posted Date: 19 Nov, 2018

On 12 September 2018 at around 3pm, Cargo Supervisor Gorecki Grzegorz was going about his daily duties on FPSO Allan’s main deck starboard side when he noticed something unusual. A flock of seagulls were circling over a dark object about 300m away from the vessel.

He soon realised the dark object was two sea turtles that had become entangled in a fishing net, and were unable to escape.

A Fast Rescue Craft was immediately launched into the water and a rescue operation was started. On board the Rescue Craft were COXSWAIN Jemerson Layag, BOSUN Cervantes Emilio and MTRM WHT Andaya Rey Ryan. Layag, Emilio and Ryan brought the turtles on board and carefully cut away the net that had ensnared them. They turtles were then released back into the water, where they quickly swam beneath the surface.

“We knew we had to do something,” said Offshore Installation Manager Damian Arciszewski.

“It was a great feeling to be able to help such beautiful animals. This was a quick decision made without any hesitation. This was just right thing to do. Maybe we gave them a chance to live another 100 years,” he said.
