Lead Technical Safety Engineer

Job Summary

This role requires good organizational/coordination skills and management of the discipline.  Direct contact with the client and vendors will be necessary.  The principal role of the Lead Technical Safety Engineer is to:

  1. Assist to plan, define, award and manage various Engineering Contractor’s technical deliverables for both basic engineering and detailed design.
  2. Ensure compliance with Client basis of design and corporate specifications.
  3. Prepare, interface with client and maintain a deviation request list with regards to all Client specifications.
  4. Prepare project-specific discipline-related technical specifications and drawings with regards to all Client, Company and Classification Society requirements.
  5. Ensure that all contractors and vendors meet the contractual, Classification Society and technical requirements related to technical safety discipline.
  6. Responsible for ensuring development and consolidation of safety-discipline engineering registers/lists, using input from the other disciplines.
  7. Arrange and manage the Safety Studies.
  8. Ensure compliance with Safety Studies recommendations and best practices.
  9. Travel as required, including but not limited to shipyards in SE Asia region, China, Middle East region, other Yinson Offices (Oslo, Malaysia), candidate vessels (onshore/offshore), operational production units (offshore) and onshore support bases.

  • Good technical knowledge on discipline-specific codes and standards, Classification Society Rules and be able to converse effectively with experts of all disciplines.
  • Good working knowledge of FPSO operations and all aspects of associated technical safety for FPSOs.

  • Able to work effectively with the project teams, achieve a good working relationship and act in the interests of the company at all times.
  • Leader of the Technical Safety discipline on the project.

Communication & Influence     

  • Shall have excellent verbal and written language skills, fluent English verbal and written.

  • Shall be able to quickly identify problems and coordinate solutions.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform as Technical Authority for Technical Safety Discipline.
  • Ensure that costs to Yinson are minimized and that project schedule is maintained.Manage all Module EPC and Integration Engineering Contractors for 3D-related work.
  • Manage the Safety Study Contractor and Working Environment Contractor (where applicable).  Follow-up and monitor Contractor schedule and progress and ensure any deviation is mitigated by corrective action coordinated with YP team.
  • Interact with Client as required.
  • Identify and ensure execution of the technical safety scope of work in accordance with the legal obligations, contract terms, scope of work, technical requirements and company policy.
  • Interact with and support the engineering contractors as required (including Marine Engineering, Hull Engineering, Topsides Module Engineering, Integration Engineering, LQ Engineering, Shipyard Engineering, etc).
  • Achieving resolution of multi-discipline equipment problems by coordinating with other discipline engineers and project engineering management team.
  • Update job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging methodology improvements; and absorbing new practices from clients and partners.
  • Engineering problem solving and troubleshooting, even when not directly in own discipline (taking a holistic approach to the project).
  • Coordinate discipline issues between client, contractors, vendors and other relevant parties.
  • Provide input to weekly/monthly progress reporting and other relevant status information as needed.
  • Participate in audits and review processes as necessary.
  • Interact with non-technical disciplines as required (document control, cost control, planning).
  • Other tasks as requested by the Engineering Manager.
  • QHSSE Duties – every employee shall
  1. Take care of themselves and others who may be affected by their acts or oversights;
  2. Not interfere with or misuse anything supplied for their health, safety and welfare;
  3. Report quality related problems and HSSE hazards or deficits within their area to the QHSSE department;
  4. Promote and take part in the QHSSE continuous improvement process.

 

Qualifications, Skills & Experiences  

  • Diploma/Degree qualified in a technical subject   
  • Good use of Word and Excel
  • Good use of Navisworks
  • Able to write Technical Reports
  • Experience of FPSO projects
  • Experienced in Technical Safety around 10 years
  • Previously Lead Role for other FPSO contrator
  • Proven experience of reviewing and commenting on deliverables from contractors
  • Proven experience in Brazilian FPSOs preferred
  • Portuguese speaking candidates preferred
