Yinson is excited to be a pioneer member of the ASEAN DEI Collective, which aims to galvanise private sector companies throughout Southeast Asia to adopt robust Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (“DEI”) policies that align with global standards and enhance their competitiveness on the world stage.
The ASEAN DEI Collective sets clear, actionable goals to guide companies in implementing diversity and inclusion strategies, including transparency in workplace demographics, gender parity in leadership, anti-discrimination policies, pay equity, support for caregivers and zero tolerance for violence and harassment.
Yinson stood alongside companies such as AirAsia, CIMB, Maybank, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, HSBC, and Standard Chartered at the soft launch of the Collective, which took place at the APAC DEI Summit 2024. The summit, organised by @leadwomen, was held at the Asia School of Business in Kuala Lumpur.
Pioneer members also participated in a roundtable themed “Advancing DEI for Sustainable Growth in ASEAN” where participants exchanged insights on DEI progress within their organisations and industries, discussed existing gaps, offered recommendations and explored actionable steps for moving forward.
Yinson’s Group Chief Human Resources Officer, Louisa Brady, who represented Yinson at the roundtable and soft launch, commented, “We are thrilled to stand alongside our fellow pioneer members to support the goals of the ASEAN DEI Collective, which align strongly with Yinson’s own aspirations and business strategies. The private sector needs to be intentional in cultivating and celebrating DEI practises within our own businesses and across our spheres of influence, as this is not only a social responsibility but a business imperative that enhances investment in the region.”
The ASEAN DEI Collective aligns closely with the Malaysia’s MADANI Vision, championed by Prime Minister The Honourable Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The MADANI Vision focuses on promoting a community that is economically progressive, socially just, and harmonious, underpinned by values, ethical governance, and the well-being of its people.
Among initiatives that Yinson has implemented to drive DEI among employees include:
- Yinson Employee Resource Group, Yinson Lean-In Circle: A platform for women to gather in small groups, regardless of their roles or positions, to network, share experiences and drive peer collaboration, mentorship and leadership development. The circle also welcomes male allies to join in debates and discussions.
- DEI Learnings on Learning Management System: Courses were made available on Learn@Yinson on topics such as ‘Fight Gender Bias at Work’, ’The Path to Inclusion and Belonging’ and ‘Strategies for Female Empowerment’.
- DEI Development Teams: Yinson sent eight employees to the 2023 One Young World Summit in Belfast, promoting positive social impacts and DEI. Upon their return, the 2023 ambassadors initiated two projects approved by the MSC – a Women Mentorship Progamme and Employee Resource Group on Health and Well-being.
- DEI Leadership Video: Yinson introduced a leadership video, “Diversity is our Strength”, to demonstrate leadership commitment to DEI, reinforcing is importance in the company.
As part of Yinson’s commitment to drive DEI, Yinson had launched its flagship sustainability initiative, 30 by 30, in June 2023, whereby Yinson has identified 30 of our most material targets that we have committed to achieve by 2030, with DEI being one of the material targets.
