Yinson is proud to support Teach For Malaysia for the fifth consecutive year, this year sponsoring two exceptional young individuals who have committed to a two-year journey to combat education inequity in Malaysia as TFM Fellows – Muhammad Danial bin Mohamed Farook and Nur Zarifah binti Jalok.
Danial, 24, a recent graduate with a Bachelor of Science Education (Hons.) in Mathematics from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Puncak Alam, teaches Mathematics at SK RPS Banun, Gerik, Perak.
Growing up in the city, Danial was initially more focused on leisure activities than his studies until a dedicated teacher saw his potential and inspired him to help others. This experience ignited his passion for community service and education throughout his university days, leading him to volunteer across Malaysia and the Philippines. For Danial, joining Teach For Malaysia is a continuation of this journey—a chance to empower more children and contribute to a cause that resonates deeply with his values.
Danial’s dedication to education and his belief in the transformative power of mathematics are evident in his words, “Mathematics is more than just numbers; it is a language that empowers students to solve real-world problems. I hope to inspire my students to see the beauty in this subject and to use it as a tool to break free from the cycle of inequality. As I often believe, satisfaction comes from seeing the growth and joy in others.”
Zarifah, 27, brings her professional experience and academic background in Petroleum Geoscience from University Teknologi Petronas to SMK Pandamaran Jaya, Klang, Selangor, where she teaches Science and Mathematics.
Reflecting on her journey, Zarifah shared, “Growing up in a B40 community where education was not always a priority, I witnessed many of my peers leaving school early due to financial pressures and community expectations. This experience made me acutely aware of the disparities in educational values and opportunities. I am grateful for my family’s support, which allowed me access quality education and shaped my belief in its transformative power.”
Driven by her personal experiences, Zarifah is passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. She expressed, “Education should be the great equaliser, yet many students are still left behind. Through my teaching, I aim to bridge the gaps in understanding and opportunity, ensuring that each student I encounter has the chance to succeed regardless of their background.” To further this mission, Zarifah is currently developing free online classes for math and science to enhance her students’ learning experience and instill in them the confidence to pursue their aspirations.
Yinson is honoured to support these Fellows as they work to transform the educational landscape in Malaysia. Since its partnership with Teach For Malaysia in 2019, Yinson has sponsored 8 Fellows in high-needs schools across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, and Sabah. A yearly highlight is ‘TFM Week,’ an annual campaign to raise awareness and amplify the efforts to eradicate education inequity. The campaign offers an opportunity for guests and supporters to inspire, motivate, and empower students through engaging learning sessions and interactions alongside TFM Fellows.
