Yinson recently partnered with Teach For Malaysia (“TFM”) to facilitate a learning session at a public primary school in Kuching, Sarawak, as part of TFM Week 2024.
Dr Renard Siew, Yinson Head of Corporate Sustainability, teamed up with TFM Fellow Qamarul Azarin to engage a classroom of 35 Year 6 students in an interactive lesson on Mathematics and Sustainability. The lesson helped students explore how mathematics can be used to tackle real-world sustainability challenges, including calculating carbon footprints using basic arithmetic and percentages. Dr Renard also shared his personal journey as a sustainability professional, aiming to inspire students to make a positive impact on the world.
Reflecting on his experience as a teacher for the day, Dr Renard said, “Spending the morning with such curious young minds was an invaluable experience. I am also deeply honoured and inspired by the dedication of TFM Fellows like Qamarul, whose passion and commitment are driving change in addressing educational inequity in Malaysia. By connecting classroom learning with real-world applications, we encourage the next generation to dream big and see the impact they can make.”
“It is heartening to see industry leaders like Yinson step into the classroom to share their knowledge and experiences. The students were not only engaged but also inspired to think differently about the world around them. Together, we are helping to bridge the gap in education and ignite a passion for learning among these young minds,” expressed Qamarul.
TFM Week is an annual initiative that brings leaders from the public, private, and social sectors into classrooms to experience the challenges of educational inequity firsthand and to inspire students by sharing their personal stories of education and success.
Since 2019, Yinson has proudly supported Teach For Malaysia as a corporate sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to addressing educational inequity in Malaysia.
