Yinson Production Ghana, in partnership with the Ahanta West Education Directorate, launched the Yinson Girls Education Programme on 1 June 2023. This programme is expected to positively impact approximately
750 female students from the upper primary to junior high levels in the Ahanta West Municipality.
The programme aims to improve Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) studies among female students and reduce poor academic performance caused by Period Poverty.
The STEM Clinics aim to boost the interest of female students in STEM-related studies by engaging them in hands-on experiments and other STEM-related demonstrations. The STEM Clinics engaged the students in basic laboratory experiments, Physics Education Technology (PhET) scientific simulation demonstrations, and mentoring sessions on STEM-related subjects.
To address the prevailing issue of Period Poverty, educational talks are conducted for the students regarding menstrual management and hygiene. Period poverty can subsequently lead to health complications and lower attendance rates at schools, causing poorer academic performance.
