Yinson Group Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”), Lim Chern Yuan, has been appointed as Co-Chair Malaysia of the ASEAN Alliance on Carbon Markets (“AACM”). Lim will serve alongside Permanent Chair Dharsono Hartono, CEO of Rimba Makmur Utama; Co-Chair Laos Johnson Yeo, Managing Director and Co-Founder of AVA Group of Companies; Deputy Chair for Intra-ASEAN Affairs Natalia Rialucky, Founder and CEO of Fairatmos; Deputy Chair for International Affairs Steven Marcelino, CEO and Managing Partner of Equatorise Advisory; as well as Member of the Steering Committee Jon Moore, CEO of BloombergNEF.
The Alliance, formed in 2023 during Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, aims to promote scaling VCM across ASEAN and to support implementation of compliance markets in the region.
As Yinson’s Group CEO, Lim has been a key driver in the company’s evolution from a local transport company to one of the largest Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) contractors globally. Under his leadership, Yinson’s market capitalisation has increased by more than 120 times since 2011. His forward-thinking approach has also guided Yinson’s strategic expansion into renewables and green technologies, solidifying its position as a leader in sustainable energy infrastructure.
Recognised for his ESG-driven leadership, Lim’s appointment to AACM underscores his advocacy for climate action and innovative energy solutions. In this role, he will draw on his extensive experience to help guide the Alliance’s strategic direction, focusing on creating a transparent, inclusive, and efficient carbon market in the region.
Lim also serves as a Council Member of ASEAN-BAC Malaysia, where he contributes valuable private sector perspectives to ASEAN’s economic integration efforts. He is also an active member of the CEO Action Network (CAN), a coalition committed to fostering sustainable business practices and shaping policies to support sustainable development in Malaysia.
Reflecting on his new role, Lim said, “The ASEAN region holds immense potential to lead in sustainable development, and carbon markets will be a key tool in achieving meaningful climate action. At Yinson, we believe in a collaborative approach to tackle climate change, and through AACM, we aim to build a robust and harmonised carbon market that benefits both local and global stakeholders.”
Lim’s appointment aligns with Yinson’s ongoing efforts to champion sustainability and carbon market initiatives. Yinson remains committed to driving impactful change and contributing to the growth of a low-carbon economy in the ASEAN region through leadership, innovation, and strategic partnerships.
