Yinson Group IT recently volunteered at a local village school, Sekolah Kebangsaan Rangalau Lama, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. During the session, the team painted the school’s walls, and donated English fiction and non-fiction books to the students, to promote quality education and foster good reading behaviour.
The school is located in rural Kota Kinabalu and serves 54 primary students and pre-schoolers. After a bus ride of approximately one and a half hours from Kota Kinabalu city centre, the team hiked through jungle terrain and crossed a suspension bridge to reach the school.
The fresh coat of paint by Yinsonites contributed to a more conducive learning environment and the students were excited to receive the donated books.
Yinson Group Chief Information Officer, Mr Alex Tan, speaking on the CSR activity commented, “At Yinson, we value education and the act of giving immensely. The recent initiative taken at Kota Kinabalu was another meaningful activity in our series of educational CSR projects and signals Yinson’s commitment to promoting quality education and aiding the youth regardless of region.”
Yinson Production Senior IT Technician, Mr Per-Ole Nyhus, shared, “Spending the day at the village school was a heartwarming experience. Sharing stories through books we donated and carrying on memories brought smiles to so many faces.”
“It’s a vivid reminder of the joy and impact we can create in the local communities where Yinson is present. Nurturing young minds contributes to bright futures, we’re proud of being part of a company that takes social responsibility seriously,” added IT Operations Specialist, Mr Andreas Kristiansen.
Yinson Group Corporate IT Manager, Mr Andy Wong, who also happens to be the coordinator of the CSR event further expressed a few words saying, “My experience in this activity was worthwhile not only because of how we contributed but also because of the joy and excitement I could encounter on the kids’ expressions. Their positivity radiated joy in everyone else’s hearts who were on the ground participating in the activity.”
Yinson is committed to promoting quality education and effective learning, aligning with SDG 4, Quality Education. The recent rural school visit by the Group IT is another addition to the educational-focused CSR initiatives.
