Yinson Production West Africa Limited proudly introduces the Yinson Scholars Programme, a new scholarship programme for students in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana. The programme aims to provide financial assistance for 10 senior high school students annually.
Initiated as part of Yinson’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, the programme benefits students from low income households in Yinson’s host communities near Takoradi; namely Apowa, Kejabil and Pretea. The scholarship covers a monthly stipend and necessities such as trunks, chop boxes, exercise books, text books, pillows, calculators, school bags and shoes.
The official launch of the programme took place at St Mary’s Senior High School where certificates were presented to the successful applicants by Yinson Production West Africa Local Content and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Edward Mensah.
Congratulating the successful scholarship recipients, he said, “We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to the local community where the company is currently operating. At Yinson, we believe in investing in the future generation by improving access to quality education. I hope that each of you will achieve the success that your heart desires.”
Public Relations Officer for Ghana Education Service (GES) Ahanta West, Daniel Payne commended Yinson for the initiative, adding that, “Although there is free SHS (i.e. free Senior High School), this (initiative) will go a long way to support parents and guardians in purchasing text books and other supplementaries.”
Queenmother of Kejebil Nana Ebum II who was one of the event’s guest of honour, also urged students in the community to take their studies seriously so they can also benefit from the scholarship scheme.
