Yinson had recently won the Significant Achievement Award under the Community category at the Sustainable Business Awards Malaysia 2020/21, in recognition of the Group’s exemplary corporate social responsibility and Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) engagement efforts.
The prestigious award was presented by Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for Economic Affairs and received by Yinson’s Head of Governance, Risk and Sustainability, Alex Gwee in a virtual ceremony on 21 September 2021.
During the ceremony, the organisers commended Yinson’s community outreach efforts, which focused on quality education and robust Covid-19 community responses this year. They also highlighted how Yinson’s vendor engagement programme comprehensively advocated ESG factors such as employee training, adequacy of health and safety management systems, safety culture and pollution prevention.
The judging criteria was based on a scoring framework designed by the Global Initiatives team, in collaboration with PwC Malaysia as a knowledge partner. The winners’ list was finalised by an independent National Advisory Panel which comprised of sustainability experts and leaders from different stakeholder groups such as the government, academia and NGOs who are familiar with the national business landscape.
Commenting on the win, Yinson Group Chief Strategy Officer Daniel Bong remarked, “As a global energy solutions provider whose operations impact communities over the world, we are committed to contributing back to the communities where we operate and championing sustainability practices amongst all our stakeholder groups towards a more sustainable shared future for everyone.”
Upon receiving the award on behalf of Yinson, Alex commented that the award reflected the efforts aligned with the company’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Yinson’s Climate Goals to be carbon neutral by 2030 and net zero by 2050. “We have devoted significant resources towards improving our sustainability performance, such as aligning our anti-bribery management system and corporate disclosures to global standards. We are honoured to have these efforts recognised in this year’s SBA awards,” he said.
This year marks SBA’s third edition in Malaysia and is Asia’s only award series dedicated to sustainability that comprehensively assesses corporate sustainability programmes. To find out more about the award, please visit SBA’s website (https://sustainablebusinessawards.com/countries/sba-malaysia/).
