Yinson Renewables (“YR”) is pleased to provide an update on our activities in New Zealand, where we have been actively exploring renewable energy opportunities since 2019.
Our project pipeline in New Zealand consists of several wind projects in the early stages of investigation and development. At these sites we are undertaking various surveys and consultations with stakeholders to assess their suitability for hosting a renewable energy development.
Working closely with local partners or service providers who have good on-the-ground understanding of local conditions and communities has always been a vital strategy for YR, and it is no different in New Zealand. Our local partners in New Zealand have been instrumental in facilitating two-way engagement with the local communities, paving the way for projects to be selected and developed in a manner that brings socio economic benefits locally while respecting the community’s deep connection with the land and unique culture.
YR Chief Executive Officer Mr David Brunt commented, “New Zealand is a very important market to us. We believe our activities can offer a range of economic, employment, social and environmental benefits, both locally and nationally, while also supporting New Zealand’s efforts to mitigate climate change and transition to a low-emissions economy. We are not a short-term player, but a long-term operator, and we are committed to continually engaging with our local stakeholders to ensure that the projects generate value in alignment to the area’s interests.”
YR New Zealand Country Manager, Trevor Nash, reiterated, “We are thrilled to see our pipeline in New Zealand progressing well and extremely grateful for the local communities’ openness in engaging with us and sharing their thoughts on how the projects can bring greater value. We believe that close cooperation with the communities, landowners and local consultants is key to the achievement of our shared ambitions”.
