Yinson Renewables has sponsored the production of a book titled Stories for Allin Kay, a collection of local folk tales and original stories written by primary and secondary school students from the La Joya municipality in Arequipa, Peru, near the location of the Matarani Solar Plant, which Yinson Renewables owns and operates. The stories are derived from oral traditions shared by the students’ grandparents and relatives, as well as original narratives created by the students themselves based on their personal experiences.
The project, which spanned five months, included writing workshops aimed at enhancing the communication skills of the 195 participating students. 250 copies of Stories for Allin Kay were printed. Each student’s family received a copy, with 10 additional copies donated to the regional library for community access. The remaining books will be kept at the Tecnico Agropecuario San Camilo to support its reading programme, benefiting both current and future students.
The initiative underscores Yinson Renewables’ commitment to fostering literacy education and youth empowerment, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainability Development Goal 4 – Quality Education.
David Brunt, Chief Executive Officer of Yinson Renewables, said, “This initiative reflects our commitment to supporting local communities and fostering educational growth. By financing this book project, we aim to empower the youth of La Joya and contribute to the preservation of their rich culture.”
