Yinson Holdings Berhad won Gold for the Best Performing Company in the Energy Sector under the Equities Category at the inaugural The Edge ESG Awards 2022 (“Awards”).
The Edge ESG Awards sets out to recognise public-listed companies (“PLCs”) and asset management firms that have truly adopted the mantra of ‘business for good’ and have made positive contributions to business, society and the environment through successful ESG practices.
Yinson was among 44 companies receiving 65 awards at the awards’ gala dinner held at Sunway Resort Hotel on 28 November 2022.
Winners in the Equities Category were selected based on the June 2022 FTSE4Good ESG ratings. The FTSE4Good ESG ratings assess and score a company’s unique risk exposure across 14 ESG themes and over 300 individual indicators, including a climate change score threshold based on enhanced FTSE4Good Index Series Ground Rules. The assessment is carried out by FTSE Russell based on publicly-disclosed information, and risk-exposure-weighted ESG scores are computed accordingly. In 2022, the Group received an improved FTSE4Good ESG rating of 3.8 compared to 2.7 in the prior year, placing Yinson in the top 14th percentile in its Industry Classification Benchmark Supersector.
Yinson’s Head of Governance, Risk & Sustainability, Alex Gwee received the award on behalf of Yinson. He commented on the win, “It’s an absolute honour to be recognised in this inaugural ESG award from The Edge. It is a validation of all the hard work and commitments that we have made in driving ESG performance across Yinson. Of course, this can only happen with a team of dedicated people and especially with the strong vision from our leadership team, board members and guidance from our institutional shareholders.”
Apart from the improved FTSE4Good ESG rating, the Group also recorded improved Sustainalytics ESG ratings to 17.4 from 21.7 in November 2022, as compared to the previous year. The rating places Yinson in the top 2nd percentile in both the energy service industry and the oil and gas equipment sub-industry as of 1 December 2022.
The Edge ESG Awards was organised in collaboration with Bursa Malaysia Bhd and FTSE Russell, with Morningstar as the knowledge partner for the Funds Category and Deloitte as the auditor. For more information on The Edge ESG Awards 2022, please visit: https://esgawards.theedgemarkets.com/.
