Yinson has won The Asset Triple A Awards 2021 for Best Green Financing in Malaysia. The award recognises the RM200 million sustainability-linked financing (“SLF”) provided by HSBC Amanah Malaysia Bhd, as the sole structuring bank, to Yinson as part of a joint continuous effort in shifting towards a low carbon economy.
The transaction that won Yinson the Best Green Financing title features a tiered pricing mechanism in which Yinson Group stands to benefit from preferential pricing upon meeting pre-agreed targets in relation to the Group’s environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) performance. Subsequently, this arrangement also allows the sustainability-linked financing margin to increase or decrease depending on the Group’s ESG performance as measured by an independent rating provider, Sustainalytics.
Commenting on the award, Yinson Group Chief Strategy Officer Daniel Bong said, “We are honoured to be recognised by The Asset Triple A Awards for Yinson’s role and commitment to sustainable financing in Malaysia. Sustainability is one of Yinson’s core values and a key focus for Yinson. We believe our adoption of sustainability-linked financing will act as a role model in inspiring other businesses to prioritise and focus on building up their ESG practices to create a shared sustainable future for everyone.”
He also expressed his gratitude to HSBC Amanah Malaysia as Yinson’s participation in such a landmark transaction would not have been possible without the implicit trust placed upon the Group by the Islamic bank, allowing the Group to be an early adopter of this sustainability-linked financing arrangement.
Yinson’s win in this year’s awards marks the second consecutive year for the Group to be recognised for its financing practices. Yinson previously was also awarded the Best Syndicated Loan in Malaysia title by the 2020-installment of the awards, which acknowledged the USD400 million syndicated bridge loan facility with a consortium of seven local and foreign banks for FPSO Anna Nery – the Group’s maiden venture into the Brazilian floating, production storage and offloading market.
