As the saying goes, ‘All teachers are really just superheroes in disguise’.

Yinson Group Chief Executive Officer, Lim Chern Yuan and Director of CEO Office, Chai Jia Jun spent half a day as ‘superheroes’, teaching 18 Form Five students at a high-need school in Kuala Lumpur alongside the superhero himself, Teach For Malaysia (TFM) Fellow, Divyang Hong.

Together, they spoke to bright-eyed students in Bahasa Malaysia about, ‘Apakah ciri-ciri pekerja berjaya dalam era digitalisasi?’ (i.e. ‘What are the attributes of a successful worker in today’s digital age?’). They advised that the key to stay relevant and successful in the digital age, is to constantly build flexibility and adaptability. They also highlighted the importance of constantly learning new skills throughout their careers to keep from being left behind.

Earlier this year, as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment, Yinson pledged its support, as Corporate Partner, to the Teach For Malaysia (TFM) Foundation. As Corporate Partner, Yinson contributed RM50,000 to support a chosen TFM Fellow, Divyang Hong.

Divyang believes that, “Every student deserves a platform to speak up, and then, the only thing left for them to do is thrive”, and he hopes to be able to provide an avenue for them to do so.

TFM is a non-profit organisation that recruits the country’s most promising future leaders to be the solution to end education inequity across the country. The half-day co-teaching sessions are part of the foundation’s TFM Week.

TFM Week is an annual event which welcomes leaders from the public, private, and social sector into classrooms to experience the challenge of education inequity, and to inspire students by sharing their own education and success stories.

Commenting on his experience as a teacher for a day, Lim Chern Yuan, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Yinson shared that the teaching session has indeed been an eye-opening experience.

“If anything, having spent the whole morning with such curious young minds further cements my belief that education is crucial to enhancing lives, especially our nation’s next generation of future leaders. All children in Malaysia should be given good opportunities to learn across the board and contribute back to society,” he said.

Director of CEO Office, Chai Jia Jun, who is also Yinson’s CSR Committee Chairman agrees and added that, “Teaching is a humbling experience because of all the young lives an educator can reach out to. There is no other profession more impactful than teaching. Having witnessed first-hand how good Divyang is in inspiring and motivating his class today further reassures us of the decision we have made to support him and of our partnership with Teach For Malaysia.”
